Cofimvaba, South Africa - The inaugural Instika Yethu Poetry Competition, hosted by the True Levels Records Foundation, has concluded with a resounding success. Initially planned as an in-person event, the competition was shifted to an online format to accommodate a wider range of participants.
The competition, which aimed to celebrate and promote spoken word poetry in South Africa, attracted a talented pool of 18 contestants. After careful deliberation, the judges selected the top five finalists based on their creativity, performance, and overall impact.
The winners of the Instika Yethu Poetry Competition are:
1. Sibongile Vuso
2. Esethu Dywili
3. Avuyile Qhinga
4. Siseko Ncapayi
5. Yamkela Nkomana
The first-place winner, Sibongile Vuso, will receive a cash prize of R5,000, while the second one will receive R2,500 and and third place winner will get R800. As an added bonus, all five finalists will have their performances featured on the True Levels Records Foundation's YouTube channel, 'TLR Pictures Extra,' providing them with valuable exposure.
The organizers of the competition expressed their gratitude to all participants and judges for their contributions to the success of the event. They also emphasized the importance of supporting emerging poets and fostering a vibrant spoken word community in South Africa.
The cash prizes for the winners will be transferred within five days of the competition's conclusion.
